What’s on the go

While we aren’t currently working on a large scale capital project, the small projects constantly fill our day-to-day.

All donations to our Capital Fund help us complete these projects, keeping our site up and running for campers and guests.

  • Foundations for the Future Capital Project

Foundations for the Future Capital Project

This Capital Project was completed in June, 2025, and is the largest building project we’ve undergone in the past 25 years. The Foundations for the Future project included three main parts.

    1. Upgrading our power to be able to support our grid as we grow and expand.
    2. Building a new maintenance shop for our team to work in.
    3. Installing a wastewater evaporator to cut down on water hauling costs.

This project was largely funded by generous donors, as well as by the CFEP grant from the Government of Alberta.

  • The Cove | Outdoor Classroom

    The Cove | Outdoor Classroom

Our new covered campfire was built in the spring of 2024 and opened that summer! This project was funded by the Community Services Recovery Fund from the Government of Canada. This campfire seats 300 and offers a beautiful view during our summer camps.

Camp Nakamun’s Outdoor Programming Optimization Project is funded by the Government of Canada under the Community Services Recovery Fund

  • Girl’s Changeroom Reno

    Girl’s Changeroom Reno

The change room has served us well, but the layout was not conducive to getting multiple cabins rinsed off and into the pool in an easy manner. Not to mention, it was such a pain to clean – all nine individual showers needed to be wiped down as well as two layers of metal panel doors, and the tile flooring needed to be scrubbed with a brush and squeegeed (a supplement to mopping of course) after each use due to poor drainage. Needless to say, this renovation has been long awaited and highly anticipated!

Our team removed all the showers, repaired and repainted walls, finished the floor, and added a combination of some individual showers as well as an open rinse off space.

  • Prep Kitchen

    Prep Kitchen

This winter our maintenance team converted our old staff room into a beautiful prep kitchen! This was a huge transition from a dark, carpeted, space to a sleek, bright, open one with all the amenities needed to prep ingredients. The prep kitchen has brought so much joy to our kitchen staff, and has cleared up so much space in the kitchen, allowing our staff to work more comfortably without bumping into each other.

What We’re Working On

  • Tubing Boat | Estimated Cost: $28,000

Tubing Boat | Estimated Cost: $28,000

Our tubing boat has served us incredibly well. Since 2010, this boat has hauled thousands of campers around while pulling a giant banana tube, running for upwards of 6 hours a day in the summer. We are so impressed by it’s longevity, and it is a staple in our summer activity rotation. Unfortunately we have reached a place of either needing to replace the pontoons and motor completely in order to use the boat this summer.

Our team sourced the pontoons and replaced them in April, and they are working on sourcing a new engine.

  • Re-Seal The Deck | Estimated Cost: $5,000

    Re-Seal The Deck | Estimated Cost: $5,000

The deck outside our dining hall is a great place to sit and enjoy the sunshine while eating lunch. It also doubles as the roof for parts of our pool and our Poplar Room downstairs. This year, we’ll need to re-seal the deck to keep it water tight, preventing leaks in the lower floor of our building.

    Pictures to come!

  • Re-Surfacing the Climbing Wall (Side A) | Estimated Cost: $2,500

Re-Surfacing the Climbing Wall (Side A) | Estimated Cost: $2,500

Our climbing wall endures tough weather all year long, from freezing temperatures, to wet downpours, to scorching sunshine. Though our wall has 3 sides, we’ve been operating with just 2 of those sides for many years due to the surface of the South wall being too damaged to use. This year we aim to re-surface this side of the wall to get it up and running, with the intention of completing the other two sides in the near future.

    Pictures to come!

  • The Point Campfire Bleachers | Estimated Cost: $8,000

The Point Campfire Bleachers | Estimated Cost: $8,000

The Point Campfire is our iconic firepit that for many years served as the main firepit for our entire site, hosting 300 campers and staff each night of the summer during it’s prime! Since we began offering multiple mainsite camps at a time, The Point has become the primary home of our grade 1-3 campers, and is highly utilized throughout the year by our rental groups. The wooden bleachers around the campfire take a lot of maintenance yearly in order to keep them in working condition. This year, we’d like to replace the bleachers so our campers and guests can continue to enjoy this space for years to come.

    Pictures to come!

  • Low Ropes Course | Estimated Cost: $2,000

Low Ropes Course | Estimated Cost: $2,000

Our low ropes course has been a favourite for years, but with age and weather it has fallen into disrepair. It’s time for a face lift and small expansion to make this activity fun and accessible to all guests and campers.

What We’re Planning

  • Renovate the Pastor’s Cabin | Estimated Cost: $20,000

Renovate the Pastor’s Cabin | Estimated Cost: $20,000

The Pastor’s Cabin is one of our main staff residences. The main floor was renovated and is in good shape, but it’s time to address the “loft” upstairs, converting it into a livable space for a small family.

    Pictures to come!

  • The Adventure Shack | Estimated Cost: $10,000

The Adventure Shack | Estimated Cost: $10,000

We repurposed our old shop into a craft and program space called the Adventure Shack. This space was amazing last summer, providing much needed shade during activities. With some upgrades to flooring, heating, and general aesthetics, this space will be a great year round break-out space for our rental groups too!

    Pictures to come!

  • Replace Lobby Carpet | Estimated Cost: $15,000

Replace Lobby Carpet | Estimated Cost: $15,000

We’ve been working on replacing the old carpet around our site with something new and easier to maintain. Our carpeted lobby stairs are next up on the roster!

    Pictures to come!

  • Converting More Meeting Rooms | Estimated Cost: $7,500

Converting More Meeting Rooms | Estimated Cost: $7,500

One of our biggest bottlenecks during the year is our lack of meeting/breakout rooms. We host band retreats 10 months of the year, and they require space to break into instrument sections and work with clinicians to hone their skills. To help meet this need, we’d like to change the standard queen and single beds in three of our motel rooms into wall beds. This will help us host larger bands, or even multiple bands simultaneously.

    Pictures to come!

  • Replace Lobby Fans | Estimated Cost: $3,000

Replace Lobby Fans | Estimated Cost: $3,000

We recently replaced the ceiling fans in our dining hall and chapel to large industrial fans. This has greatly increased the airflow, making the spaces much cooler in the summer months, and circulating hot air better in the winter. We’d like to add these fans to the main lobby as well.

    Pictures to come!

  • Relocate Ranch Cabins | Estimated Cost: $50,000

Relocate Ranch Cabins | Estimated Cost: $50,000

We have 5 beautiful cabins on our ranch property that we would love to utilize here on our mainsite!

    Pictures to come!
